Conservation week 2018 (15th-22nd September) was a super busy week for Finding Little Blue as we worked with schools and the wider public to help raise awareness of our Taranaki little blue penguins!
Between running around creating and sharing marketing materials for the FLB Community Workshop (which happened on the 29th) we worked with Makahu School on a beach clean at Waiwhakaiho Rivermouth, assisted with the Taranaki Conservationists at the Bell Block community beach clean and provided two special Finding Little Blue Talks at the Brooklands Zoo!
About 26 people helped with the Bell Block beach clean while 15 kids and 3 adults from Makahu school got out and about to clean up the rivermouth area – including the bushes where we found some worrying items. Makahu school also came along to the Friday zoo talk while Saturday’s talk brought some passionate young kids who knew a lot about wildlife biology – earning them some awesome spot prizes sponsored by DOC!
Thank you so much to Department of Conservation, Taranaki Regional Council and New Plymouth District Council for assisting us in spreading the word about our little blues!
